It is the most fun, fundraiser underwater! It's a 2-month long competition where divers anywhere in the world, compete to win prizes by calculating dive minutes and fundraising for the San Diego Oceans Foundation! Dive the most minutes underwater and earn the title "Diver of the Year" with your picture and an article published in California Diving News magazine! Earn the most total points and win an incredible exotic getaway! It's fun, easy and helps raise money for SDOF's programs.
Similar to a walk-a-thon, you collect financial support from your network of friends and co-workers, and then rather than walking, you get to dive, as much as you can safely dive! Points are assigned based on minutes underwater and funds raised, the most points win! Each dive minute equals one (1) point and each dollar raised equals two (2) points.
Dive as much as you can during the month of July. Fundraising begins as soon as you register and runs throughout August 31st.
New this year is our Photo Contest! Your registration fee for Dive-A-Thon includes the chance to submit up to (5) photos. The winner will be selected by Emmy award winner, Marty Snyderman. Our oceans desperately need your help, and this competition not only gives you the chance to win great prizes, but also do good - to Dive For a Cause!
Our pollution prevention programs have stopped millions of gallons of raw sewage and trash from entering our waterways. We also remove trash directly for our waters, with our underwater cleanups. Our restoration program has helped revive San Diego's local White Seabass population, from it's critically low levels. Aside from teaching children about our local marine ecology, we also teach divers FREE Fish and Invertebrate Identify Courses.
All funds raised help SDOF's mobile marine science education and snorkeling program, which is growing our underprivileged youth into our future green leaders!

No worries, we have two categories to choose from: Professional or Recreational! If you dive for your job, then you'll fit into the professional category. If you dive often, but not as much as someone that gets paid to, then the recreational category is for you. This gives everyone an equal playing field.
