The Mission Bay Grow-out Facility has one pen structure
that was designed similar to those used to farm salmon throughout the world. However, the SDOF
pen design is 8'x 8' x 8' while commercial salmon pens have a minimum size of 33'x 33' x 20'.
The SDOF pen is sized so that it can be placed in boat slips and insures that physical operations can be
conducted by a few people without the need for special mechanical gear. This pen has the capacity to release nearly 16,000 white seabass annually back into the wild.
