Research reveals that young children who have access to books in the home and who are read aloud to regularly have the best chance of becoming successful readers. Storm Drain Stenciling

On Sunday, July 27th we had a very successful monthly Storm Drain Stenciling event. We had volunteers breaking up into groups and we canvassed the Mission Valley area to apply those eye catching “No Dumping – I Live Down Stream” stenciling on the storm drains. These vivid signs help remind citizens to watch what they put into our storms drains.

There is still so much work left to do! Gather some of your friends up and let’s legally spray paint our streets and promote ocean stewardship.

Join us on August 30th at 9am -12pm!

In partnership with I Love a Clean San Diego, SDOF volunteers stencil messages next to storm drains to help raise awareness about the link between the storm drain systems and water quality.

This is a great event for families, school groups, scouting programs, clubs, corporate groups – EVERYONE!

Please RSVP to volunteer@sdoceans.org so that we can plan accordingly!

Canyon Watch

Van Nuys Hike
Saturday, August 9th
9:00am – 9:45am

Do you want to volunteer for the Canyon Watch program, but don’t know where to start?

SDOF hosts monthly Canyon Watch hikes to introduce new volunteers to the program and build camaraderie among current volunteers!

In July we had volunteers hike Mission Gorge Canyon. It was obvious that it had been a while since the city had provided maintenance in this area. It is because of these dedicated volunteers that this canyon will receive the attention it needs.

Become a Canyon Watch volunteer to protect these fragile ecosystems.

E-mail volunteer@sdoceans.org for more information about the Canyon Watch program and to RSVP!
