Welcome!
John Valencia, SDOF Executive Director
Hello SDOF Supporters:
I am enthusiastic to be joining the efforts of the San Diego Oceans Foundation as your new Executive Director.
 |
I graduated from the University of San Diego with a
Bachelors of Business Administration, Marketing & Finance with two minors in Non Profit Management and Leadership. I have been involved in the San Diego nonprofit
sector for the past 10 years. I have sat on the board of directors for two nonprofits and have served as the Executive Director for both NeighborHelp and United
Students. I was also the CEO for A Joyous Moment, an international light manufacturing company, for the past three years.
|
The previous Executive Director, Noelle Morris, has left a legacy. Although Noelle leaves behind big shoes to fill, I plan to continue doing amazing work and help
move the SDOF to bigger and newer opportunities.
Thank you for your support and involvement with SDOF. It was a pleasure meeting many of you at the "Meet & Greet" at Nick's in OB. For those of you that were not able to attend, I look forward to meeting each one of you.
Happy Oceans,
John Valencia

Volunteer Appreciation at Pelly's Mini Golf
An evening of fun, friends and mini golf!
 |
All of the important, hands on work for SDOF's programs is done by our volunteers! As a small token of our gratitude, we held a fun filled evening to recognize their hard work
and the feats we've accomplished together! SDOF volunteers, staff and board members gathered at Pelly's Mini Golf in Del Mar for our annual Volunteer Appreciation event.
Each volunteer was treated to a pizza dinner and a round of golf on the ocean conservation themed golf course.

White Seabass Restocking Project
12,000 White Seabass Delivered to San Diego Bay!
San Diego Bay now has White Seabass in both pens! We received two shipments of White Seabass totaling 12,151 White Seabass to the San Diego Bay facility
in March, and as the water warms up this spring they will be getting very hungry. Thanks to the White Seabass Restoration Project, the White Seabass is beginning
to make a comeback in the wild after it’s numbers were depleted by 90% over the last 50 years. If you enjoy spending time outdoors and want to contribute to this
project, sign up for an orientation or visit our website!
Predator Nets Removed From San Diego Bay
 |
Recently the predator nets were removed from the San Diego Bay pens in order to improve water flow and make maintenance of the pens easier. With the help of San Diego
Mooring company, we detached the nets from the pens, and using a spud barge, lifted the two heavy nets onto a trailer to be taken away and used at another facility. This project would not have been possible without
this kind donation by San Diego Mooring Company who maintain many moorings in San Diego Bay, as well as operating marinas
throughout Southern California. Many thanks to San Diego Mooring for their help!
|
(Don't worry divers, we'll still need your help cleaning the containment nets at San Diego Bay and Mission Bay!!)
