Program Updates
White Seabass Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute delivered close to 11,000 juvenile white seabass to our San Diego Bay grow-out facility last week. The fingerlings will be raised by SDOF volunteers for approximately 4 months and then released into the wild for hopes of survivorship. Reef Monitoring Project Fish ID Course 32 Scuba divers attended our latest Reef Fish Identification Course, held last month at Mount Carmel High School. For those of you patiently waiting for the next training, please visit the Reef Resource section of our website to practice your fish ID skills! Next Fish ID Training Course Sunday, October 7th 9:00 am -3:00 pm Volunteer Opportunities To RSVP for either of these activities, please email us volunteer@sdoceans.org Ocean in Motion ~ Snorkeling Trip Wednesday, June 6th | Mariner's Point, Mission Bay | Time TBD As the summer season quickly approaches, SDOF is looking for weekday volunteers who can give 3-4 hours to help lead snorkeling trips. You must be an avid swimmer and good with kids. For more information on volunteer responsibilities, please contact us and we will email you a snorkeling program manual. Storm Drain Stenciling Thursday, June 14th | 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm | Meet at SDOF Office In partnership with I Love a Clean San Diego, SDOF volunteers stencil messages next to storm drains to help raise awareness about the link between the storm drain systems and water quality. Many areas of the County have not been stenciled or need to be re-stenciled. Paint, stencils, and safety equipment are provided at no charge. A brief 10-minute orientation will be provided. White Seabass Orientations Wednesdays in June Starting in June, WSB orientations will be held on from 12-1 pm on the first and third Wednesday of the month and 6-7 pm on the second and fourth Wednesday at San Diego Bay. We are not accepting new volunteers for Mission Bay at this time. If you do not foresee an orientation you can attend in the next month, we may be able to schedule an orientation to fit your schedule. Please contact courtney@sdoceans.org. |
