California Coastal Cleanup Day 2011

It is that time of year to donate your time to help clean San Diego Bay for the 27th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day!

We are are looking for divers, snorkelers, and land support volunteers to make San Diego Bay a cleaner place. Snorkelers and surface support volunteers are in the greatest need.

Responsibilities:

Surface Support Volunteers: Help pick up litter along the shore, separate debris brought in by divers/snorkelers and record group’s findings.

Snorkelers: Collect debris floating on the surface and transport trash picked up by divers to surface support volunteers. (Must provide your own gear)

Divers: Remove litter that has settled on the bottom of the ocean and transfer to snorkeling volunteer. Divers will also get to participate in the Trashy Diver contest!

Requirements (for divers only):

1. RSVP by Monday, September 12th at 4PM.
2. Fax/email/mail a copy of their driver’s license and
certification card(s) by Monday, September 12th at 4PM.
3. Have logged at least 20 dives.
4. Must provide and use your own gear.

How Do I Volunteer?

If you are interested in being part of San Diego's only underwater cleanup as well as helping a statewide ambition to rid our oceans of harmful debris, please do the following:

1 - Fill out an SDOF volunteer application
2 - Send an email to SDOF at volunteer@sdoceans.org with the list of names in your group and how they would like to help (i.e. land support or as a diver).

Trashy Diver Contest

The Roddenberry Dive Team in partnership with the NAUI Green Diver Initiative, the Oahu Visitors Bureau and TUSA present the Trashy Diver Contest! We are challenging all ocean enthusiasts, scuba divers, beach combers and water lovers alike to collect trash from any water or coastal marine environment and photograph the results! You could win one of our great monthly prizes as well as chance to win the Grand Prize, a 5-night trip to Hawaii!

How can you win?
It’s easy! Just follow these steps!

1. Go to any water or coastal marine environment (beach, lake, pond, river)
2. Pick up any trash that you see
3. Take a photo of all the trash you collected (with or without you in the shot)
4. Submit your photo(s) to the NAUI Green Diver Initiative’s Trashy Diver webpage

That’s it! Each photo you submit counts as an entry in the Trashy Diver Contest and you are now automatically entered to win one of these awesome prizes!
